Nalsarovar Utsav 2016 celebrated at Nalsarovar

After the success of Polo and Pavadh festivals, Birds festival ‘Pakshi Mahotsav’ will be celebrated at Nal Sarovar bird sanctuary near Ahmedabad to promote bird watching the state government has decided to hold a week-long Nalsarovar Utsav in the first week of February. As per the details received by Collector’s office, more number of tents and other arrangements for tourists to stay will be set up at toran tourist complex and several cultural programs will be organized along with morning boating ride.




Nal Sarovar is a Bird Sanctuary with shallow waters (4-5 ft) and muddy marshlands, dotted by numerous small islands. Distance between Ahmedabad and Nalsarovar is about 60 km. Mainly inhabited by migratory birds as wintering ground, it is the largest wetland bird sanctuary in Gujarat, and one of the largest in India. It was declared a bird sanctuary in April 1969 and a Ramsar site on 24 September 2012.

 

Govt is planning the Nalsarovar festival to be a two months festival from next year January. Tourists can also visit Velavadar and other nearby attractions including the wild ass sanctuary and lothal.
